Deputy Chief
Frank Babinec

Assistant Chief Frank Babinec is currently assigned to “C” Shift as Shift Commander for the Coral Springs Fire Dept. Chief Babinec has been with the Coral Springs Fire Department for 10 years. He is a Lead Instructor for the past year and has been a State of Florida Certified Instructor since 2000. Chief Babinec has 6 years of Instructor Experience and currently holds various certifications associated with the Fire Service. It should also be noted that Chief Babinec has sent two minimum standards classes to the State in the past year. Both of these classes achieved a perfect 100% pass rate.

Chief of Training
Robert J. Bertone

Chief of Training Robert J. Bertone is the Director of the Coral Springs Fire and EMT Academy, as well as Chief of Training and Public Education for the Coral Springs Fire Department. He has served the City of Coral Springs since 1991, and has over thirty-four years of experience in fire and emergency services. Chief Bertone is a nationally certified Incident Safety Officer, Fire Officer II, Fire Inspector I/II, Plans Examiner I, and Search and Rescue Technician III. He is also a state of Florida certified Paramedic, Pump Operator, Fire Officer I, Fire Instructor III, Fire Investigator I, and Fire Inspector I/II. Chief Bertone is an American Heart Association Basic and Advanced Life Support Instructor. He has been a training consultant to the U.S. Navy, Coast Guard, Air Force and Border Patrol.
Chief Bertone has over 28 years of teaching and curriculum development experience, including seven years as a clinical instructor in Pharmacology and Toxicology at the State University of Buffalo Medical School. He has a Bachelor degree in Science and has completed numerous advanced courses with the National Fire Academy. Chief Bertone currently serves on several statewide committees, including the Safety Officer Certification Program development committee for the Florida State Fire College. In 2004, he was selected as Union Firefighter of the Year by Local 3080, IAFF..

Division Chief
John B. Molenda


Division Chief John B. Molenda is with the City of Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue. Chief Molenda has 13 years experience in the field and 7 years teaching experience and is a Lead Instructor for the Coral Spring Fire Academy. Chief Molenda has conducted courses internationally at various levels. Chief Molenda currently holds a State of Florida Fire Instructor III certification as well as an Associates Degree in Fire Science and a Bachelors Degree in Fire Safety Engineering. Assignments include Fire-Rescue Operations, Field Training Officer, Safety Officer, and previous Chief of Training for Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue. Chief Molenda is also a member of FL-TF-2 Urban Search and Rescue Team, and was deployed to the World Trade Center. He is also the Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue Department’s Special Operations Coordinator, Hazardous Materials Technician, and Technical Rescue Technician. He also serves on the Dive Rescue Team, as the SWAT Medic Team Leader, WMD Specialist, and Florida State Paramedic.

Lieutenant
Mike Caldaro

Lieut. Mike Caldaro has been in the Fire Rescue service since 1982. He has been affiliated with the Coral Springs Fire Department since 1993 and is currently assigned to the Suppression Division assigned to Quint 95. He has been a Fire Service instructor since 1998 and currently serves as an instructor with Minimum Standards, Driver-Engineer, Aerial Apparatus Operations training, and CPR programs. His other achievements include: Fire Inspector, Paramedic, Urban Search and Rescue Specialist, and Lead Instructor for the Driver-Engineer Program.

Battalion Chief
Troy Cool


Troy Cool is a Battalion Chief with the City of Fort Lauderdale Fire Department with over 14 years experience. Battalion Chief Cool holds a BA in Organizational Leadership and is a Florida State Certified Fire Instructor III and a Live Fire Training Instructor II. Chief Cool is also a State certified Hazardous Materials Technician and has received advanced level training in a variety of technical rescue disciplines including: Confined Space Rescue, Rope Rescue, Vehicle Extrication and Heavy Machinery Rescue. Battalion Chief Cool is the Lead Flashover Instructor at Coral Springs Fire Academy and is one of the original developers of the Flashover Awareness training program in South FL in the mid 1990's at South Tech Fire Academy. Chief Cool assisted with the development of the Live Fire Training Instructor program with the Florida State Fire College. He has developed and taught Engine Company Operations training for fire departments and training events across the country. Chief Cool also teaches Tactics at Broward Community College, new recruit and in service training for Fort Lauderdale Fire Department and has taught Flashover, Engine Company Operations and Firefighter survival on a state and national level.
